Richmond School Board Discusses Closing Several Richmond Public Schools
RVAGOV would like to apologize for our inability to send a correspondent to yesterday's School Board meeting. In lieu of an actual briefing, we are posting this Times-Dispatch article. As Richmond draws closer and closer to finalizing the budget, tension continues to rise regarding the state of education in Richmond. As it stands, Mayor Dwight C. Jones has proposed level funding for Richmond Public schools after superintendent Dana T. Bedden and the School Board suggested an $18 million increase. Though merely a hypothetical situation now, the closing of Armstrong High, several elementary schools and the consolidation of three specialty schools may be the solution to insufficient funding for pervading facility and teacher retention issues.
